The TCF Canada Writing test is designed to test your skill in using French in writing. It is not a test of grammar alone. You must demonstrate how well you grasp the writing task, how you follow the instructions, how you organise material, generate ideas, and apply the correct words and grammatical structures. There are three tasks in the Writing test, and each one has a distinct purpose:
- Task 1: Compose a message to the recipient to describe, tell about, and/or explain.
- Task 2: Write a text (e.g., article, letter, note) to report an experience or tell a story, including commentary, opinion, or argument according to a given objective.
- Task 3: Take and develop a position in response to one or more sources.
What Does the TCF Canada Writing Test Measure?
The aim is to progress from experiencing the format, practising one task, writing against the clock, reviewing someone else's work, and going back to step one. This test checks your response for:
- Did you respond to all sections of the prompt?
- Did you respect the required word range?
- Can a reader follow your ideas easily?
- Did you use precise and varied vocabulary?
- What errors appeared repeatedly?
- Did you connect your ideas clearly?
- Did you remain focused on the subject?
